Cheryl Hoover

Director of Production, Citadel Theatre

Since 2008, Cheryl has been Director of Production at Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre, the largest regional theatre in Canada. Cheryl oversees approximately one hundred employees, technicians, and craftspeople to build and run a season of between eleven and fifteen shows. A minimum of six of those shows originate and are built at the Citadel. Cheryl received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Regina in 1984, majoring in Stage Management.

Professional Experience

  • 1999 – 2008, Resident Stage Manager, Citadel Theatre, Edmonton
    • Over nine seasons, stage managed over 40 shows including classics, musicals, new Canadian works.
  • 1998-2005 Freelance Stage Manager across Canada
    • Cheryl worked from Newfoundland in the east to BC in the west, and as far north as Dawson City, YK. She worked extensively in larger centers such as Toronto, Calgary, Winnipeg and at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.
  • 1991-1998 Resident Stage Manager, Phoenix Theatre, Edmonton
  • 1988-1991 Resident Stage Manager, Globe Theatre, Regina, SK
  • 1985-1988 Freelance Stage Manager in Saskatchewan
    • Cheryl worked at most of the theatres in Saskatchewan including Persephone, 25th Street Theatre, Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan, and the Globe.

Professional Accomplishments

  • Cheryl received the Margaret Mooney Award recognizing Outstanding Achievement in Administration in 2017
  • Cheryl received the Distinguished Alumni Award for the University of Regina’s Theatre Department in 2014
  • Cheryl has twice (1999-2000, and 2012-2013) been chosen as recipient of the Sterling Award for Individual Achievement in Production, awarded by a jury of peers to honor Theatre Excellence in Edmonton.
